Bachleda Termy Kasprowy

Bachleda Termy Kasprowy

Bachleda Termy Kasprowy is a modern, year-round geothermal pool complex being developed in Zakopane, at the foot of Mount Giewont, on the site of the former bathing area at Polana Szymoszkowa. The investment is set to become a breakthrough project for Zakopane and the entire Podhale region, introducing a new era of development.

Covering an area of over 47,000 square metres, the complex will be one of the largest and most advanced facilities of its kind in Poland. Powered by geothermal water, the project follows the principles of sustainable development, significantly reducing its environmental impact. Its picturesque location, right next to the Bachleda Kasprowy Hotel, offers exceptional views of the Tatra Mountains.

Bachleda Termy Kasprowy is expected to open a new chapter in the history of Zakopane as a 21st-century resort destination. The first guests will be able to enjoy the thermal baths by the end of 2028.

A Niche to Fill

For years, Zakopane itself has lacked such a comprehensive thermal attraction. Until now, visitors seeking geothermal bathing experiences had to travel several dozen kilometres to complexes in Bukowina, Białka or Chochołów. During peak seasons, guests often faced long queues, particularly in rainy or freezing weather.

Although interest in thermal tourism in the region has continued to grow, Zakopane has so far been missing a large, year-round geothermal complex. Bachleda Termy Kasprowy fills this gap by expanding the city’s offer and introducing modern geothermal baths located directly in the city centre - eliminating the need for additional travel.

“For years, Zakopane has lacked major attractions outside the high season. Soon, we will have something that benefits both body and mind, right at hand. We hope the complex will bring a new quality to the town, drawing on the traditions of the region” - says one of the owners of nearby guesthouses.

The Importance of the Investment for the Region

The construction of the new thermal complex will have a significant impact on the development of year-round tourism in Zakopane and the Podhale region. While the town has long attracted visitors in winter and summer, the transitional seasons were often quieter. Thanks to geothermal pools, SPA zones and water attractions, Zakopane will gain a new impulse that attracts visitors beyond peak periods.

Geothermal waters are renowned for their health-promoting properties. They support regeneration, rehabilitation and preventive care. The new complex fits perfectly into the growing wellness trend, combining recreation with wellbeing.

“Bachleda Termy Kasprowy is an investment in the future of Podhale. We want Zakopane to become a resort teeming with life all year round - modern, yet rooted in the region’s natural assets. Our thermal complex will not only enrich the tourist offer, but also contribute to the development of the local community, the creation of new jobs and balanced growth. We expect a significant increase in the average occupancy across the whole town” - says Albert Bachleda-Curuś, representative of the Bachleda Investment Group.

The Health Spa History of Podhale

Podhale has been recognised as an oasis of health and recreation since the nineteenth century. In those times patients came to Zakopane to seek mountain air and healing waters. In 1886, the town received official status as a climatic health resort thanks to the efforts of Tytus Chałubiński and other doctors, who discovered that the local air, sunshine and lack of allergens were conducive to treating respiratory ailments.

In 1884, Ludwik Zejszner discovered hot springs in Jaszczurówka, which marked the development of hydrotherapy. Soon, the first bathhouses were built in Zakopane, and locals began to use the therapeutic properties of the waters. Treatment with cold and warm baths, peat mud or herbs attracted more and more patients, especially those suffering from tuberculosis, and Zakopane gained the nickname “the Polish Davos”. At the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, modern hospitals and sanatoriums were built here, attracting thousands of patients from across Europe. Although Zakopane lost its formal status as a health resort in the second half of the twentieth century, the memory of its therapeutic traditions has remained.

Geothermal Energy as the Region’s Treasure

What makes Podhale unique is geothermal energy - a real treasure hidden underground. The region lies in an area rich in geothermal resources, characterised by great depth and high temperatures, among the highest in Poland.

In the vicinity of Zakopane, at depths of up to 3 kilometres, water temperatures can reach 90°C. Importantly, these parameters are comparable to areas with volcanic activity, yet geothermal water in Podhale is extracted without any volcanic processes. This makes it a stable and safe source of energy.

Geothermal energy is a renewable and ecological source of power. By using water from deep underground, we do not deplete its resources - after giving up its heat, the water is returned to the reservoir in a closed cycle.

“Podhale is a phenomenon on a national scale - it has its own hot springs right beneath our feet. Using geothermal energy in thermal pools is a textbook example of sustainable development. We take from nature what is best, without destroying it. The water returns to the earth, and we gain clean energy and health-giving baths. The Zakopane thermal complex at Polana Szymoszkowa will show how wisely we can use this gift of nature, to serve people and protect the climate” - adds Albert Bachleda-Curuś.

From slides to sauna
The complex will be divided into several thematic zones designed so that everyone - from families with children, through those craving entertainment, to those looking for silence - will find something for themselves.

The recreation zone will be the centre of water fun, offering attractions for whole families, slides, zones for children and relaxation areas by the pools, including swim up bars.
The relaxation zone will provide silence and regeneration with pools of a calmer character, hydromassage and relaxation areas conducive to unwinding. Part of this zone will also have a rehabilitative character.
The VIP & Saunarium zone will become an enclave of complete peace and comfort. Designed as a space with limited access, it will offer an intimate atmosphere, an extensive complex of saunas and places of deep relaxation, with an emphasis on privacy and peace.
Completing the offer will be a modern fitness area with facilities for individual training and group classes.
A special attraction of the facility will be the outdoor pools, located on the terraces and roofs of the building, allowing year round relaxation in thermal water with a view of the Tatra panorama.
The food and beverage facilities will include several points within the complex: a restaurant with a regional accent, fast service bars in the recreation area and cafés with sweets for those relaxing in the quiet zone. Water bars by the pools will allow you to drink a refreshing cocktail without leaving the water.

The infrastructure and amenities have been carefully thought out. More than one thousand parking spaces will be created. The architecture will harmoniously fit into the landscape of Polana Szymoszkowa - wooden and stone elements of the façade will refer to the Zakopane style. The entire complex will be connected to the existing Bachleda Kasprowy hotel and the ski station so that hotel guests have direct access to the spa and skiers in winter can easily use the pools after hitting the slopes.

The location of the complex is an additional asset: Polana Szymoszkowa lies not far from the centre of Zakopane and at the same time offers space and postcard-like views. The proximity of the cable car to Gubałówka and the ski slopes themselves means that, in one place, attractions for every season will be concentrated - skiing in winter, bathing with a view in summer, and spa, wellness and entertainment all year round.

The synergy with the Bachleda Kasprowy hotel is equally invaluable. This hotel has for years hosted tourists hungry for mountain experiences, and now it will become part of a larger leisure complex. Hotel guests will have access to the thermal pools at their fingertips, while visitors to the pools will be able to use the hotel facilities, such as its restaurant or accommodation. Thanks to this, Polana Szymoszkowa will become a fully fledged resort where every aspect of relaxation is provided.

Bachleda Termy Kasprowy is not just another tourist investment - it is a symbolic step into the future of Zakopane and the entire Podhale. It combines nature with modernity, tradition with innovation, and local hospitality with a world class standard. This impressive complex is part of a new stage in the development of Zakopane - as a modern, ecological and year round resort for the twenty first century.
